If what you actually want is orange, we squeeze fresh orange juice to order. It is a different drink altogether: sharper, cleaner and made when you ask for it.

There is a reason we do not squeeze it in advance. Orange juice develops a bitter compound called limonin over the hours after squeezing, so juice that has stood in a jug genuinely tastes different. Ours is £5.99 and takes a few minutes.

If what you want is sweet, our two Indian mango drinks are the better option next to spiced food, and both are £2.49, exactly the same price as a Fanta.

Frooti, from Parle Agro, is lighter and tangier and comes in the Tetra Pak carton. Maaza, from Coca-Cola, is thicker, sweeter and pulpier, closer to a glass of aamras. Mango against chilli is one of the oldest pairings in Indian food.
